What the interview is for
The officer is confirming that the marriage is genuine and that the applicant is admissible. Most of the questions are about daily life, because a real shared life is difficult to invent consistently.
What to bring
Originals of what was filed, plus anything that has happened since: newer leases, newer statements, photographs, travel. Bringing updated evidence signals a life that continued after the filing.
Separate interviews are not a disaster
Where a couple is interviewed separately, small inconsistencies about details are normal and expected. Inconsistency about the shape of the relationship is what matters. Preparation is about knowing the record, not memorising answers.
If something in your history is complicated
Prior marriages, prior filings, arrests, or immigration history should be discussed with your lawyer well before the interview, so the answer is accurate and the documentation is in hand.
