What is being waived
EB-2 normally requires an employer, a job offer, and a labor certification testing the US labor market. A national interest waiver asks the government to set those aside because your work benefits the country enough to justify it. You petition for yourself.
The three things you have to show
That the proposed endeavor has substantial merit and national importance. That you are well positioned to advance it. And that, on balance, waiving the requirements benefits the United States. Each is argued with evidence, not asserted.
Where petitions go wrong
Most weak petitions describe a field rather than an endeavor. The endeavor must be specific enough to evaluate: what you intend to do, how, and why it matters beyond your own employer or region. A strong record with a vague plan still fails.
It is not only for scientists
Entrepreneurs, healthcare workers, engineers, educators, and people in business have all qualified. What matters is merit and importance, evidenced properly.
